Six pregnancy-safe mocktails made with pasteurized juices and no kombucha or 'low-alcohol' products: ginger lemon fizz, faux rosé spritz, a blood orange mock mimosa, and more.

3 min read6 recipes, two ways ↓

Nine months is a long time to be handed orange juice at every celebration. These pregnancy mocktails are built like proper drinks, with a herb, some bitterness or tartness, and real sparkle. Every ingredient was chosen with pregnancy in mind: pasteurized juices, no kombucha, no “low-alcohol” products that can contain up to 0.5% ABV, and no caffeine except decaf. And each card has a spirited twin for your partner, so you can clink the same drink (tap 🍸 Cocktails at the top).

This article is general information, not medical advice. Every pregnancy is different, so check with your doctor or midwife about anything you’re unsure of.

Ginger Lemon Fizz

Many people find ginger soothing on queasy days, and homemade ginger syrup is much spicier and cleaner-tasting than ginger ale. Here it’s mixed with fresh lemon and lengthened with club soda, so it’s bright, warming, and not too sweet.

The Ginger Lemon Fizz: many moms-to-be swear by ginger on queasy days.

The syrup takes 15 minutes: simmer sliced fresh ginger with equal parts sugar and water, steep, and strain. It keeps two weeks in the fridge.

Homemade ginger syrup is spicier and cleaner than store-bought ginger ale.

Faux Rosé Spritz

The drink for when you miss a glass of wine on the terrace. White grape juice gives the fruit, a splash of cranberry gives the rosé color, and verjus, the pressed juice of unripe grapes, gives it wine’s crisp, food-friendly acidity. Verjus is never fermented, so it’s naturally alcohol-free.

The Faux Rosé Spritz: verjus gives it a real wine-like crispness.

Look for verjus near the vinegars or in specialty shops, and check that it’s pasteurized, as most commercial bottles are.

Verjus is unfermented grape juice, so it's naturally alcohol-free.

Decaf Iced Chai Shakerato

A café-style treat. Decaf chai concentrate and milk shaken very hard with ice, which whips them into a creamy foam, then strained into a coupe. It’s cozy, spiced, and caffeine-free.

A decaf iced chai shakerato gets its froth from a hard shake.

Shake longer than you think: 15 seconds of hard shaking is what builds the froth.

Shaking with ice whips the chai into a creamy foam, no cream needed.

A Quick Pregnancy-Safe Checklist

  • Juices: pasteurized only, including cider and “fresh” juices from the store.
  • “Non-alcoholic” wine, beer, and spirits: many contain up to 0.5% ABV. Choose 0.0% if you want to be certain.
  • Kombucha and home-fermented drinks: skip them. They can contain alcohol and are often unpasteurized.
  • Caffeine: use decaf tea and coffee, and count cola.
  • Egg white foams: use aquafaba instead of raw egg white.
Same glass, same garnish: the partner's version is just one tap away.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are mocktails safe during pregnancy?

Mocktails made from fresh or pasteurized juices, sodas, and syrups are generally fine. Check that every juice is pasteurized, avoid kombucha and 'non-alcoholic' beers or wines that may contain up to 0.5% alcohol, and watch caffeine. Always follow your own doctor's or midwife's advice.

Is non-alcoholic wine or beer safe when pregnant?

Many 'non-alcoholic' drinks legally contain up to 0.5% ABV. Health bodies advise that no amount of alcohol is known to be safe in pregnancy, so many people choose drinks labeled 0.0% instead. The mocktails on this page don't use any of these products.

Why no kombucha or hibiscus?

Kombucha is fermented, can contain small amounts of alcohol, and is often unpasteurized. Some guidance also suggests limiting hibiscus tea during pregnancy. We've left both out to keep things simple.

How much caffeine is OK in pregnancy?

Many health organizations advise limiting caffeine to about 200 mg a day. That's why the chai shakerato here uses decaf chai, and none of the recipes use regular black tea or coffee.

What are good mocktails for a baby shower?

The Blood Orange Mock Mimosa and Faux Rosé Spritz are elegant and easy to batch. Our baby shower mocktails article has more, including pink and blue gender-reveal drinks.
